Pointless Polls and Predictions for 2008

Before we all get caught up in predicting the 2008 campaign, let me offer a pointed question: In our lifetime, how many early frontrunners (other than vice presidents) went on to win their party's nomination? And how many of those went on to win the general election?
Discuss in relation to the current polls and predictions for 2008.

Wes Clark or John Edwards. Both have the good sense not to be early frontrunners.

This post reminded me of a conversation way back in 1991.

Clinton Story.

Front-runner now means next to nothing.

What happens if/when Obama gets in?

What happens if Gore listens to his people and throws his hat in the ring?

As for the dark side, what happens in Nov 2007 when Gingrich comes in late claiming he's "the people's candidate"?
